Hands On Activity

Hands on activities provide various opportunities for individual students to learn procedural knowledge and obtain a full conceptual understanding of several subjects. Through this hands on activity, mathematics and environmental science are brought together to instruct students with how to find trees' age, the multiples of four, graphing, formulating the logistical formula, and creating calculations through the formula. The activity has been modified for grade level 5.
As a future elementary teacher modifying this has prepared me to use it within my classroom. It can be stopped and introduced at any age group depending on what grade level I have the opportunity to instruct. The younger elementary students may practice their multiples of four by comparing the height of a pine with its' age. Graphing, and calculating the logistical formula could be done with the higher elementary classes. Overall this hands on activity has various opportunities within itself for future students to learn procedural and conceptual knowledge.
